EMDR intensives

EMDR intensives are available for clients who want to accelerate their progress in therapy by compressing the therapeutic process into consecutive days or half-days. Weekly EMDR sessions require time at session beginning and end for opening up the work and then closing it before session end. While these are essential parts of an EMDR session, they reduce the amount of time that can be spent each week on EMDR processing. With an intensive, however, there are fewer openings and closings, allowing more focused time on the goals we establish for your EMDR work.

EMDR intensives can be used as an adjunct to ongoing therapy if you already have a relationship with a therapist. Intensives can help with making progress on a particularly difficult area in a shorter period of time than you would see in weekly therapy. In collaboration with your current therapist, I can work with you on a specific situation to accelerate your current work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a typical day like?

Intensive days generally begin at 9 am and finish around 4 pm, with a lunch break around 12. We will take breaks as needed. Intensives are not intended to feel like boot camp! We will take time for intention setting and pausing to listen to your body's needs as we move through the day.

I will give you ideas for preparing your mind and body in the days leading up to the intensive so you can prepare yourself adequately. Journaling, time in nature, and mindfulness of your exposure to news all help to prepare you for the work of an intensive.

How many days will we meet?

I will provide you with an estimate of the number of days needed after your initial intake appointment If you do not have the number of days available that I recommend, we may be able to split the work up into a few blocks to work on over time or we may have to prioritize the memories we process.

This is challenging work. People generally tell me that they feel physically and emotionally fatigued after the process. Because of this, it may be helpful for you to plan to take a day or two with limited responsibilities after your intensive in order to reflect and recover. I will be checking in with you as you transition out of this intensive work and back into your daily life and ongoing therapy.

Can I do my intensive remotely?

Yes, it is possible to work remotely. We can discuss this possibility during a phone consultation. It is important that you have a safe and comfortable space for the intensive, with sufficient support.

What is the cost?

  • The pre-intensive intake appointment (90 minutes) is $345.

  • Full-day Intensives are $1,380 per day (6 hours of therapy per day). Half-days are $690 (3 hours of therapy).

  • Because I am reserving a large portion of my day or full days, I require a 50% deposit at the time of booking.

  • The remaining 50% will be paid on the first day of the EMDR intensive.

  • I will discuss my cancellation policy with you during the initial free consultation.

  • I am not on any insurance panels. I can, however, provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance provider.
